INTRODUCTION

The EA FIFA eWorldCup on Twitch

When EA hosted the FIFA eWorld Cup, a professional eSport competition for FIFA, they asked Ex Machina to make the viewing experience interactive.

We proposed innovative ways to use Twitch Extensions that allows viewers to interact and get real-time information about the match and players. During the broadcast viewers were able to answer trivia, polls and share their predictions. Using the Extension viewers were able to get real-time information about the match and players.

Stay in the Game: The Interactive Twitch Extensions for the FIFA eWorld Cup

The Extension was available on the FIFA eWorldCup channels and selected partner channels across Twitch. The production team could easily manage the full Twitch Extension experience from a single web based interface to trigger interactions and see the results.

The result was an highly interactive overlay on top of the live stream on Twitch. The Extension followed the design of the broadcast making it a seamless user experience with thousands of viewers interacting with FIFA Esports like never before.

EA Fifa Twitch Extension
OBJECTIVE

Engage FIFA viewers with Twitch Extensions

EA asked Ex Machina to provide a solution on how to engage, inform and reward viewers during the live broadcast on Twitch by developing a Twitch Extensions that allows viewers to interact with the broadcast and get real-time information about the match.

The objectives of the project included:

  • Make use of the Twitch Extension platform to allow viewers to participate
  • Provide interactions like predictions, polls and trivia so viewers can earn points and compete on a leaderboard
  • Show real-time game and player information so anyone that’s viewing can find background information directly on the stream
  • Inform viewers of additional information that can be found on Twitter and the website
SOLUTION

A Feature-Packed Twitch Extension

Through the Twitch Extension viewers could answer polls, trivia and predictions before, during and after the matches. By answering questions viewers could score points and rank on the leaderboard which shows overall and individual results. Winners are visibly rewarded and players could potentially earn in-game drops for participating.

Ex Machina's Twitch Extension platform supports:

  • Interactive Viewer Engagement Viewers participate in polls, trivia, and predictions during and after matches, earning points and leaderboard rankings with rewards and potential in-game drops.
  • Additional Real-time Information The Extension seamlessly provides game stats, tournament info, player lineups, talent profiles, and win probabilities without leaving the viewing experience.
  • Video Extension Platform Comprising a JavaScript/HTML-5 layer overlaid on the video player via the Twitch Extension API, adapting to mobile screens, supporting various interactions like polls, trivia, predictions, announcements, leaderboards, stats, and e-commerce.
  • Centralized CMS Management An easy-to-use CMS empowers the production team to prepare, create broadcast timelines, manage live operations, access real-time results, and adjust dynamic content.
  • Comprehensive Insights and Analytics The platform tracks viewer behavior, making data available in Google Analytics or custom platforms, covering viewer numbers, interaction participation, user engagement, and passive vs. active viewers.

Viewers can access the competition brackets directly from the Twitch Extension.

The thing that we love is Multiplayer Entertainment. Bringing people together to do interactive video and streaming.
